Tilicho Lake Trek is the expedition to explore the highest lake in the world. If you did not know, Tilicho is indeed the highest lake in the world. Situated at the height of 4919 meters, the lake is a famous destination for Nepalese and tourists alike.
An Entirely Different World
Tilicho Lake is a popular destination of the Annapurna Circuit Trek. The trek to Tilicho diverts from the Annapurna Circuit at Manang whereby we take a southward route to Khangsar. From Khangsar, we walk further upwards to reach the Tilicho Base Camp. From there, we have to ascend again to reach the Tilicho Lake. The trail to the lake is quite adventurous as we walk through a ridge along a slope. The path is unique as there is nothing except stones and sand. However, you’ll continuously see the views of the Annapurna Range and Tilicho Himal itself.
Tilicho Trek starts from Besisahar and goes along the Marsyangdi River. The lake is surrounded by the peaks Khangsar, Nilgiri, Tilicho and Muktinath. Tilicho Lake also has a religious significance as the sage Kak Bhusundi mentioned in the Ramayana is believed to have resided here. It is formed by the melted glaciers of the northern slopes of Annapurna, along with the Thorang Peak. In addition, we will see some fantastic views of mountains such as Manaslu and Himculi.
Diverging from the Usual
The route of Tilicho Lake Trek is virtually the same as that of Annapurna Circuit Trek, except for the diversion at Manang. So, we have to return from the lake to Manang and continue on the trail. Alternatively, we can also go through a different route to reach Jomsom directly. However, that trail is quite difficult to tread and only undertaken by few trekkers.
Tilicho Lake Trek can be done all-round the year. However, if you want to experience the best of this trekking experience, it’s best to come here during autumn or spring. During those times, you can see the mountains covered in snow along with clear skies and pleasant climate. We will take care of your entire food and lodging and make sure that you’ll smoothly complete this trek. Additionally, we provide an experienced guide that will accompany you throughout Mohare Danda Trek.
The itinerary of Tilicho Trek is almost the same as Annapurna Circuit Trek. However, it takes an extra two days for hiking to Tilicho and coming back to Manang.
