Brief Introduction of Langtang Region

Trekking in Langtang takes you across a less crowded hiking trail across this beautiful land not very far from Kathmandu, Nepal’s capital. This region is easily accessible from Kathmandu as its Southern border lies only 32 kilometers away from the valley.

The Langtang Region is protected as the Langtang National Park which spreads around an area of 1,710 sq. km. Although this region is close to Kathmandu, its hiking trails are not very crowded as most of the trekkers visiting Nepal choose to trek around the Annapurna and Everest region. Trek to Langtang can start nearby Kathmandu driving approximately 40 minutes, called Sundarijal or Dhunche/Syabru Benshi needs 6/7 hours over land. And trekking for Tamang heritage as well as one of the Ganesh Himal trekking also starts from Syabru Benshi. Land over trips offers you scenic and paradise along driving between Kathmandu & Syabru Benshi. Langtang region inhabited by mostly an ethnic group. People from the region follow traditionally Tibetan Buddhism. Most people from this region are depending on farming and some are in tourism like runners of lodges. There is built already road between Nepal & Tibet {China}, border known as Timure. It’s made easy living life somehow for local people by opened this border.

Walking inside the Langtang National Park is the major highlight of this region. Encounter some rare species of birds and animals as this region preserves more than 1000 species of plants, over 150 species of birds and many mammals and other animals. Red Panda is the major attraction of this place. If lucky, you will be able to catch a glimpse of pandas in the woods of bamboo trees. Langtang region is not just popular for its natural beauty but also for the Cheese factory and cultural richness. The people residing in those areas follow Tibetan Buddhist culture whose resemblance can be seen in the Gompas and monasteries. The prayer flags, chortens, Mani walls, everything reflects the Tibetan land and its culture. Likewise, the yak cheese factory in Langtang is renowned worldwide for its delicious yak cheese.

Apart from natural beauty and cultural richness, the people in this region has treasured their unique culture and tradition intact. Their lifestyle is unique in its own way. The culture, tradition, and way of living have remained untouched till date. People sing and dance in their own language and the colorful dress they wear is so beautiful. The craftworks of the local people can be seen in the houses built, windows, pillars and many others. People weave bamboo baskets that are so attractive. Amongst all, their warm nature which will make you feel welcomed and homely.
