Australian Camp Day Hike

Duration 1 Day Difficulty2,000m

The Australian camp Day hike is a single-day trip around Pokhara. It is one of the easiest treks that is feasible for people of all ages who are seeking quality adventure trek. It is the most popular short trek which boasts some fantastic sunset and sunrise views.

Moreover, the magnificent views of the Himalayan Mountains and the gorgeous view of the Pokhara Valley add more beauty to the experience. Other attractive sceneries of this trek include the beautiful Australian Camp, the hill of Sarangkot and the quaint village of Dhampus. Interestingly, the Australian Camp was named so due to the mispronunciation of the local people. The camp was, in fact, supposed to be an Austrian Camp.

Short vlog on Pokhara, Dhampus to Australian Camp

The hiking route along the Australian Camp is not that busy like Annapurna Base Camp trekking route, Annapurna Circuit trail, and Everest Base Camp trail. This day hike can be done throughout the year.

Australian Camp Nepal trek is a fairly smooth trek in the stunning foothills of the Annapurna. The trip gives appropriate views of the Annapurna Mountain range including Annapurna South (7219m), Annapurna III(7575m), Annapurna IV(7535m), Machhapuchhre (6993m) as well as Hiunchuli(6441m) and so on.

The trek begins at Kande and ends at the Dhampus Phedi. The trek involves two hours of hiking uphill along with about one and a half hours of walking on a straight track. In addition, we descend from the village of Dhampus for about 2 hours. The terraces of rice fields, the feeling of fresh cool breeze as well as the proximity to the mountains make this trek an extraordinary one.

Additionally, Australian Camp Nepal is located at a place where there is a lot of rainfall during summer. This results in verdant green forests with lichen growing on the trunks. Moreover, there can be a problem with leeches while trekking through the forest. Although at the camp itself, there is no such problem. However, proper hiking boots and trousers will keep you safe from any harm.

This single-day trip around Pokhara is not very far from Pokhara. It requires at least 5 hours for this excursion including the exchange from and back to the lodging. Contingent upon our climbing pace, the measure of stops and also taking pictures, the trek could take up to 6 hours. However, if you want to enjoy the experience to the fullest, you can also spend a night in the Australian Camp. The sunrise from there is quite a sight to behold.

Great value for money with a superb bunch of staff who displays quality service!
Me and my friend decided to spent 6 days (UAE holidays) in Nepal of which we opt to stay and explore Pokhara (4 days) and Kathmandu (2 days).

Pokhara is a peaceful place with very accommodating and helpful people. We had a tough day at the airport, need to rush to our flight to Pokhara and so on. Glad before we call it a day and with lots of travel tours around the area, we were able to visit North Nepal Travels and met Mohan. He suggested places to go, things to do and finding a good restaurant/cafeteria offering their native cuisines. We have tried the Dal Bhat, Buffalo Momo, Thukpa at the Local Mo:Mo Restaurant located at Sekuwa & Jhir Center (lakeside, near the bus station).

We might have visited the place during the monsoon season but we still enjoyed our stay. With our 4 days of stay, we have done the city tour (visited the world peace pagoda, bat cave, mahendra cave, devis falls), sunrise at sarangkot, paragliding (thanks to our pilot Sandeep & Bivek) and reached the Australian base camp (thanks to Niraz, our patient guide).

I will definitely come back and will go to Annapurna base camp with the assistance of North Nepal Travels and will be promoting them for anyone who wanted to visit Nepal.
